Abortion

Abortion, by some people, is assumed as an illegal act and considered a crime against humanity. At the same time living in this world of modernization and advancement of scientific technology, others advocate that some times abortion becomes a necessity, thus abortion must be legal and moral. Therefore the debate is between the two schools of thought, pro-life and pro-abortion.

The world has shrunk into a global village. Now each and every issue has gained due importance. Taking the case of abortion, it became a conflicting issue between the liberal and the conservative schools of thought.
On one side the conservatives believes that abortion is a crime against humanity and it is next to killing a human being. Therefore there is no need to let the women participate in making decisions for abortion as the women do not understand the side effects; they believe that abortion will harm her physical and psychological health.

What is Abortion?

Basically abortion is related to the removal of the fetus from the uterus of the mother prior to reaching the stage of viability. This is the early pregnancy period that is usually 20 weeks. Therefore, abortion basically means killing of an infant that is not yet fully prepared to come in the world or some say that it is equal of murdering a human life.

Is Abortion a Necessity?

Regarding abortion there are two different schools of thought, one believes that this is the legal and moral right of a women, while the opponent believes that abortion is not only an illegal act but also something more then immoral. Thus they belong to the conservative school of thought and are very strict in their beliefs.
On the contrary, the liberal school of thought believes that abortion is not only the necessity of time. Also, keeping in mind certain situations in some critical cases, it becomes necessary to perform an abortion.
It is true that we are not living in the world of dreams. The practicality is to face the challenges of the time and live within the time and to challenge the time is no wise decision.
Therefore one needs to understand the aspects, the psychological and the psychical effects of either keeping an illegal, immoral pregnancy or aborting. It is very important to realize the purpose and logic of ones acts.

Circumstances Under Which Abortion Becomes Necessary

In many cases, to abort a baby is really not the will of a mother but some times due to certain conditions she has to take this decision. These certain conditions make abortion moral and legal.
For instance, where there is the question of saving either life, i.e. the life of a baby or mother, in this condition it becomes important for the doctor to decide. Here the necessity of abortion is realized when one puts the question of saving humanity. On one hand is a fetus that is still not fully developed while on the other hand is the mother who is fully alive and has many other responsibilities in the world. In this case it becomes very critical to decide, but the logical and wise decision is to go for an abortion but at the same time it is very important to understand the means and necessity of aborting an infant.
Similarly, sometimes abortion is carried out due to illegal pregnancy, either by rape or the youth involved in fulfilling their sexual desires which results in pregnancy. Therefore this is very important to understand the cause of abortion. In the above case if pregnancy is an out come of rape or incest then it is legal. But when it resulted because of carelessness, it becomes illegal as abortion simply becomes a way of correcting one’s folly.
It should be understood that abortion is basically immoral but it is legal and moral in certain conditions. It should be kept in mind that the reasons of abortions should be valid and strong enough. If it is a question of life and death, abortion becomes a necessity.

Serious Side Effects from Use of Viagra

Side Effects of Viagra

A study carried out by Harry A Milman and reported to the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System noted that Viagra, otherwise famous the world over for overcoming and treating erectile dysfunction, was found to cause psychological disturbances and sexual aggression.
Although no concrete existed prior to this finding, yet these researches by Milman provided first piece of evidence as to the direct relationship between sexual assault and the use of Viagra.

Viagra Research

In order to confirm the hypothesis, Milman and other scientists ventured on to study the literature on the principal drug sildenafil, nitric oxide. These studies on Sildenafil revealed that the use of Viagra caused a number of biochemical changes in the human brain, and that brought about physiologic effects on the workings of the brain.
Key areas of change noted include the sections of the brain, which are responsible for the behavior, sexual drive, and emotion of the individual. Statistics to this effect showed that there were more than 270 cases of neurological disturbances, amnesia, as well as aggressive behavior noted from the use of Sildenafil.
These studies further proved that though there was significant evidence to suggest a relationship with the various functions of the central nervous system, particularly its adverse effects, however a definite link could not be found with the use of Viagra and 'drag and sexual aggression'.

Viagra Precautions

Hence, it was suggested that individuals using Viagra for erectile dysfunction must consult their physicians about the possible neurological, emotional or psychological disturbances that may result from the use of the subject drug.

Is There A Relation Between Sleepwalking and Depression

The study of sleep is one that has been studied for many years. It is an interesting part of the study of the human mind, and is still being investigated.
Indeed, there are have many theories proposed by many researchers, but generally speaking there is a great deal more to explore before one can be certain of anything.
Some of the things that have been studied include sleep patterns and sleep disorders.
In each of these studies there have been symptoms revealed to which the causes are being researched. Much of the research has been fruitful, and it is on the basis of this that explanations have been provided. One of the symptoms that has been uncovered in studying sleep disturbances is sleepwalking. Research in this area too still continues.
Sleep walking has been largely associated with children. Though there are many adults and adolescents that report sleepwalking, children are believed to be much more likely to experience sleepwalking.
It is believed that children tend to spend a lot more time in non-REM sleep, and this is why they experience more sleep walking bouts that others. Adults tend spend more time in REM sleep, and indeed spend more and more time with this sleep as they grow older.
When one sleepwalks, it is natural that real sleep cannot be completed. This is because energy is being used to help a person move about from place to place even if the eyes are shut. With adults, it is said that if they do not have a proper sleep their work during the day is affected.
This is simple to understand, and if they happen to be sleepwalkers then there is every chance that they would suffer even more. Common symptoms of sleep walking and the simultaneous deprivation of sleep in adults results in agitation, being edgy, feeling drowsy, depressed, etc. In adults is especially an issue rather than it being an issue with children.
Though children tend to suffer more with sleepwalking, adults tend to be more depressed and suffer the other symptoms above. However, this does not mean that children do not get depressed.
Children certainly do get depressed as well. They may be depressed to the extent that they may not be able to perform at school or even take part in activities due to the possibility of sluggishness associated.
Children can also be as severely affected with depression as a result of sleepwalking just as much as adults can. However, due to the fact that adults are usually job-holders and have other responsibilities on their shoulders the depression tends to be more apparent with them.
What makes children’s depression severer than adults is that it is not the result of added stress that adults are likely to face because of the family roles and the like.
This kind of situation needs to be focused on carefully, and parents in particular should recognize quickly if their child is having a severe problem. This is because too much sleepwalking can deprive the child of alertness that it should have.
This is because the child also has to attend school daily and may even be at risk when it comes to crossing roads or doing any work that requires one to be alert.

What Is The Difference Between Sleep Apnea and Sleep Enuresis

If a person does not sleep well, it is difficult for him or her to focus on daily work and activity.
Indeed, there are many people who are impacted by the difficulty of sleeping properly. There are different types of sleep disorders that have been discovered. Some of these are age-related while others are not.
Two particular sleep disorders that are age-related are Sleep Enuresis and Sleep Apnea.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a disorder that is usually related to more men that it is to women and children. Up to 8% people suffer with this disorder, and some believe that it is a condition that can be dangerous.
This is because of the fact that the air passage gets blocked during a person’s sleep. By the air passage getting blocked oxygen cannot be breathed in. It is known that some people suffer blockages like this up to 90 seconds.
During sleep apnea it must be noted that often people make loud snorting noises. They may or may not wake up from the blockages that occur.
In order to prevent this from happening the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) method is employed, and some medications as well. However, CPAP is only a solution as long as it is used while the reliability of medications as permanent cures is questionable.
Just like sleep apnea affects and is said to be age-related, children are also affected by a sleep disorder known as Sleep Enuresis. This occurs for a number of reasons, and in most cases is disturbing for a child.
Like sleep apnea can cause to be drowsy during the day so can Sleep Enuresis does the same thing. This is logically understood because of the fact that one’s sleep is broken by the occurrences.

Sleep Enuresis

Sleep Enuresis is known to be a condition that affects children normally between the ages of 3 and 6.
There are two types of Sleep Enuresis:
  • Primary Sleep Enuresis that occurs in the first place, and
  • Secondary Sleep Enuresis that occurs as a relapse.
It is known that this disorder occurs in 30% of children around the age of 4. It also occurs in 10% of children around the age of 6, 5% of children around the age of 10, and 3% of children around the age of 12.
The elder the person the rarer the disorder, but it is still known to occur. This is reflected in the fact that 1-3% people around the age of 18 have enuretic experiences.
Causes of Sleep Enuresis include diabetes, infection of the urinary tract, epilepsy and a few others.
There are also various other reasons for the disorder. These may even be psychological such as fear in children. In addition to this, it may also be said that problems with a person’s bladder could also result in Sleep Enuresis. Sometimes it is difficult to tell what the bed wetting condition might be until the cause has been diagnosed.
If a person suffers two or more rounds of bed wetting in a month it is considered to be Sleep Enuresis It is also known that a person could even sleep walk during this disorder. Among the treatments for this disorder are medications and behavioral therapy.

What Is The Main Cause Of Insomnia

There are certain functions in the body that cannot be ignored. One of these is the desire to sleep. Most healthy people have the strong need to sleep at the end of the day after a hard day’s work. This is a natural response that helps one recoup. Having a good sleep is a blessing. This is because of the fact that it helps one to re-charge the energy that has been lost during the day. If this energy has not been re-charged, it must be asserted that there are side effects that can be experienced. Some of the experiences as a result of insomnia can be dangerous. And therefore it must be said that it is a condition that should not be allowed to go un-monitored.

Generally, Insomnia Is Recognized By

  • One having trouble falling asleep;
  • Awaking in the middle of sleep and not being able to drop of to sleep again;
  • Waking up often during the night and having trouble going back to sleep;
  • Awaking very early in the morning
  • Un-refreshed sleep

Types Of Insomnia

There are two types of insomnia; Primary Insomnia, in which there are no health-related problems, and Secondary Insomnia that is caused by health problems. Health problems such as heartburn, depression, cancer, asthma, arthritis, medication, etc. often cause insomnia.
Insomnia may last for any length of time, and it may last as long as its causal health problem lasts. Insomnia may last for a short while or it may go on for prolonged periods. In addition to this it may be intermittent, taking breaks and occurring every now and then. Acute insomnia can also be caused by a specific event that has upset a person. It can also be caused by illness, stress, external factor inhibiting sleep, such as lights on the room where one sleeps or too much noise around, and a change of work patterns.

Diagnosing Insomnia

Generally, insomnia is diagnosed through the experiences of a person and how they explain it to a physician. Physically examining a person is also used. In some cases where insomnia is severe, patients can be simply observed to confirm their conditions.

Course Of Action Against Insomnia

Advising a person on what they should do for better sleep at night is normally the first course of action for those suffering with insomnia. For acute or temporary insomnia medications are not recommended. However, in severe conditions medications are used. The effectiveness of these varies considerably, and in few cases they may not work well enough.

Good Habits To Develop Better Sleep

Generally, for people not to suffer with sleep disorders such as Insomnia, it is advised that they:
Develop a regular sleeping time at night and also a fixed time for waking up each morning. Naps should be avoided because they tend to rob one of night sleep.
Do not consume anything with caffeine of nicotine; these are stimulants that will keep one awake for hours after they are consumed. Alcohol too is another agent that disrupts sleep.
Exercise regularly but not before going to bed. This is because exercise tends to pump one up, and keeps the blood pressure higher. It is recommended that one should not exercise within 3 hours before bed time.
Should not eat a heavy dinner or anytime near sleeping time. This is because until the food is digested properly the body cannot rest properly. The activity of digestion is enough to disturb a person, especially if s/he is already having a problem sleeping. As opposed to avoiding heavy meals before sleep, it is recommended that one consume something light before bedtime. This helps one to get some sleep.

Tramadol HCl (Ultram, Ortho-McNeil), is a centrally acting, synthetic, binary analgesic. The drug was approved by the FDA March 7, 1995, and is indicated for the management of moderate to moderately severe pain.
The drug has been used in more than 39 million patients in 70 countries since 1977. Tile FDA has not classified tramadol as a controlled substance.

Tramadol-associated adverse effects have been reported. Adverse effects occurred in approximately 15% of patients who received up to 400 mg/day.
The adverse reactions were similar to those reported with opioids. The most prominent adverse effects involve the central nervous system and the gastrointestinal tract. Common adverse effects reported in the trials reviewed in this Focus include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, somnolence, drowsiness, constipation, restlessness, sweating, headache, and palpitations.

Tramadol's potential for chemical psychological dependency is apparent low. A review of the foreign clinical experience revealed only 152 cases in 39 million patients. The explanation for this low risk is due to the delayed mu opioids effect of the active M1 metabolite.

Tramadol should be used with extreme caution in patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Caution should also be exercised and a reduced dose given when tramadol is administered with alcohol, sedative hypnotics, opioids analgesics, anesthetic agents, or other agents that act upon the central nervous system (CNS).
Likewise, CNS-related adverse effects may arise if over-the-counter cold, sleep, and analgesic medications are taken with tramadol.

Respiratory depression may occur if the recommended dosage is consistently exceeded or if another centrally acting depressant drug (eg, alcohol, anesthesia) is given concurrently.

Adipex

Adipex and Heart-Valve Disease

Among the treatments that have been discovered for many ailments, there are few that have been successful and these too had their levels of success. Considering this, research has continued regarding the use of particular treatments that are conventionally and non-conventionally used. Treatment methods of ADHD, especially with Ritalin are still currently under research.
This is because there is a lot of hope with Ritalin in addition to the criticism that the drug has received. However, it still remains a drug that is on top of the market and is administered to treat many children and adults suffering from ADHD.

The Best Treatments for ADHD

The best treatment for ADHD would be a mixture of approaches. Counseling, teaching as well the referred medications can be applied together in order to get the intended effect. However, greater focus is on treatment through medication, as this has the most effective means of treatment right now.
Ritalin is usually administered in the form of pills. These may be of different kinds and have different lengths of effect in terms of duration.
There are other pills that are generally of the methylphenidate category, but it is Ritalin that is the most widely used type. It is advised that this drug should be used only as much as is needed because of the fear of side effects. Though there are hardly any side effects noticed, it is suspected that the drug could cause problems later in life.
As an example, it is suggested that those who had taken Ritalin when they were in school ended up with weaker backbones by the time they were in their late twenties. Studies still continue to establish a concrete link between Ritalin and backbone problems.
However, Ritalin is considered a convenient treatment as compared to others because it is available in three different forms. The pills may be short-duration, intermediate-duration or long-duration ones.
Depending on the severity of the case at hand, one may administer Ritalin. However, it is suggested that the shortest dose of Ritalin is the best. This is because of the fact that medicine slowly takes effect, peaks and then descends in terms of effect.
In addition to pill form of medication that is used to treat ADHD, there are other forms of methylphenidate.
These are:
  • Focalin
  • Metadate ER
  • Methylin ER
  • Concerta
  • Ritalin LA
  • Metadate CD

The Importance of Teaching & Counseling ADHD Children

Teaching ADHD children is essential. It must be realized that these types of people have a problem focusing and so steps must be taken to prevent their concentration from breaking. This would naturally make medications more effective as well.
Teaching techniques would include providing students with shorter exercises that they can complete in time before they lose their focus. Also, students may be positioned in places that prevent them from being distracted. The ideal place to position a child is right before the teacher, so that s/he can be observed closely. This will also prevent other children from interacting with the child more than necessary.
In addition to teaching strategies and classroom techniques employed effectively, counseling is also helpful. Often, counseling and medication are recommended together. This approach is important because it can help a person cope with his or her condition, particularly when s/he realizes that things are not going well at school or work.
